Myself and the Healing Place admin team are looking to hire our first clinical psychologist contractor to come on board as a team member and live out the Healing Place values of friendliness, kindness, easy-going humour, honesty, low-stress, and a commitment to deep, healing, dynamic practice, all with great earning potential. Many of the referrals that come through are clients who are determined to get to the heart of their issues to achieve change at the deepest level of their psyche. I am aiming to assemble a team that can reliably meet that need; to work with clients on a relational and emotional level, to give clients a compassionate transformational experience and new insights into themselves and their defence mechanisms, strengths, and pain.

I’m Sweeney O’Heare-Young, I’m a clinical psychologist, and I opened A Healing Place early in 2022. A Healing Place is situated in the biggest room in a boutique multi-disciplinary health-service building in inner-city Clifton Hill with a lovely waiting area for your clients. You’ll find everyone is very friendly and up for a laugh, and other psychologists in the building including myself are up for informal peer supervision. I’ve got tremendous respect for anyone seeking therapy, and I’ve created a space that reflects that respect and invites deep reflection. The light-filled room is filled with gothic and classic furniture, contemporary original artworks, and lots of elegant plant-life. 90% of clients say ‘wow this is nice’ when they first walk in!

The room is equipped with standing/seated desk set up, reliable wifi, Air-Con and heating, sound proofing, your own lockable storage, discreet Samsung bluetooth speaker so you can play music while writing notes, and black-out curtains you can roll down if you need a nap ☺.

You will enjoy full coverage by an Australian-based offsite administration team. The high level of support will enable you to focus time on treatment and client care and remove administration burden from your day. The wonderful Tracey will check over the practical details of your GP letters and fax them off, process payments using stored credit cards, chase up missed payments, correspond with Medicare, GP clinics, and clients on your behalf, take bookings and cancellations, enter data, and screen prospective clients. You will also enjoy full autonomy to choose which clients you feel comfortable working with, when to take on new clients, and how many clients you see per day.

You will be fully incorporated into our established SEO-friendly website AHealingPlace.com.au, designed and maintained by external professional digital marketing consultants who also set up and monitor our google adwords campaign, which aims to bring in new clients with an eagerness for deep work.

You can either choose a two days per week position, or three days per week position, choosing from Mondays, Saturdays, Sundays, and potentially Fridays to suit you. This position is offered on a contractor basis, with all administration and billing services, marketing, and operational costs paid for by the business. Clients will pay you a session fee of $235 per session, or $185 if you choose to offer a concession rate at your discretion. Once you’ve got a full client load (five or above per day) you’ll pay a flat service fee of $295 +GST for each day that you’re assigned the room, (cheaper per day if you go for the 3 day option), and you keep everything you earn above this. Take four weeks equivalent leave off per year without paying so that you don’t have a financial or psychological barrier to holidaying.

All revenue generated is to be paid into the business bank account, with service fees of $295 per day + GST to be deducted and funds to be remitted back to the practitioner on a weekly basis net of rent. If you are a registered GST provider, which is easy to set up, you would be able to claim back this GST at tax time. If you charge $235 for 6 sessions per day for two days, you’ll be earning $2230 for the two days after subtracting the service fee.

A Healing Place is staff and client focused. The service fee is low compared to percentage split options with the aim of great staff retention and a good deal for everyone, holidays from paying is offered for the same reason. Pay a reduced fee until you have a full client load. The contract doesn’t place limitations on where you can work if you choose to leave. New clients are asked to book in weekly sessions for the first six weeks at the same time each week. This means you need to hold less clients in your mind, reducing stress and allowing more mental space for each client. It also goes a way to attract clients who are committed to making a change, which should increase your effectiveness, which always feels great! Focus on therapy with admin taken care of, we don’t ask you to offer court reports or assessments but can assist you if you wish to begin doing VOCAT work.

To be considered, you will need to possess:

Proven commitment to ongoing supervision, professional development, self-reflection and self-care, clear boundaries and communication
A dynamic non-pathologising attitude towards human suffering rather than a medical model understanding (eg. Emphasis on defence mechanisms and trauma responses rather than diagnoses and disorders).
Passion for deep compassionate therapy; training in EMDR, Havening or psychodynamic therapy would be great
Demonstrated ability to form close, healing relationships with clients (research shows again and again, the therapeutic relationship is key to change)
Your own laptop
A current police check and working with children check if successful
An ABN or ACN, and Professional and public indemnity insurance.
Eligibility for registration with Medicare
Capacity to work at least two days per week
Willingness to discuss and reflect on mistakes in therapy, we all make them ☺ and be open to feedback.
